According to World Sports, Barcelona advocates depriving Telstegen of the captain's armband and Frick appoints a new captain.
Barcelona has strong confidence in new goalkeeper Joan Garcia, and their deputy will be Szczesni. Against this background, some inside the club believe that even if Ter Stegen decides to stay in the team, he should not give the captain's armband to him, and this approach seems out of place.
Frick will make a decision after the holiday, but apparently the first captain is a key role in the locker room and is the main representative of the coaching staff, sports department and management's communication with the players.
Considering that Barcelona's strategic direction is to no longer reuse Ter Stegen, more and more voices tend to change captains and believe that the head coach should make a decision. This is similar to Guardiola's approach at Manchester City, who appointed the B seat as captain not long ago, rather than voted by players before.
Due to the negative experiences during De Bruyne and Walker's role as captain last year, Guardiola decided to appoint the captain himself this time, and appointed B seats, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Haaland as the new captains. Guardiola once said: "This is the first time in my career that I personally selected a captain. I don't like what happened last season, so I decided to represent the entire team this year. Sometimes, I want to be the one with the final say."
For Barcelona, if adjustments have to be made, then Frick should be executed, provided that he believes that choosing a captain who has no dispute in the future will be more beneficial to the team. Frick still needs to talk to Ter Stegen.
Barcelona executives think Inigo Martinez is regarded as a representative new captain candidate because of his experience, influence in the locker room, and a good relationship with head coach Frick.
As of now, Barcelona's captains are Ter Stegen, Araujo, De Jong, Rafinia and Pedri in order.
