The Liverpool Echo reported that Liverpool has negotiated with Frankfurt on a potential transfer for striker Ekitic.
It is reported that Liverpool plans to reorganize the front line this summer, with Ekitic and Newcastle United's Isaac being their main target. Although Liverpool has always admired Isaac and is willing to offer more than £100 million, Newcastle is determined to sell the Swedish international during this transfer window.
So Liverpool has turned its attention to Ekitic, the 23-year-old Frenchman who has performed well in Frankfurt and helped the team qualify for the Champions League and is currently one of the most sought after strikers in Europe.
Within the past 48 hours, Liverpool and Frankfurt have held negotiations, and the Reds are expected to make a offer next.
Interestingly, Newcastle also wants to sign Ekitic, and their offer to Frankfurt on Tuesday was rejected. Frankfurt hopes to sell Ekitic for nearly 100 million euros (about 86.7 million pounds).
Liverpool plans to bring in at least one center this summer, as Nunez is expected to leave the team. It is reported that Naples has now withdrawn from the competition, but teams such as AC Milan and Saudi professional league Riyadh Crescent remain interested in him.
Luis Dias, who served as center for part of last season, was favored by Barcelona and Bayern, whose offer of 67.5 million euros (about 58.6 million pounds) earlier this week has been rejected by Liverpool and they are expected to raise the offer again.
