Brazilian national team coach Carlo Ancelotti accepted an exclusive interview with AS and talked about Real Madrid's unsatisfactory results last season.
You won every honor imaginable in 2024. It was a year full of success. Also that summer, Mbappe, the best player in the world, joined the team. But the season ended badly. what happened? Do you regret any of your decisions?
Ancelotti: We lost our entire starting defense, we lost Carvajal and Militao, and Rudiger was playing with serious injuries. Fortunately, Asensio came through the youth academy and performed very well. Don’t forget that a lot of times I had to play Valverde at right-back and Joan Armene as centre-back, which left a serious void in the midfield. We lost stability at the back, which cost us the championship.
I don't think it's because of Kroos' retirement because we have adapted to using other midfielders like Camavinga, Ceballos, Bellingham, Joan Armeni or Valverde. In addition, Guler has gradually grown up and is now in very good shape. We have great midfielders, but getting another Kroos or Modric is out of the question.
