According to Spanish daily ABC, one of Messi’s luxury villas in Ibiza is at risk of being partially demolished due to illegal expansion by the previous owner.

It is reported that Messi purchased a luxury villa in Ibiza, Spain from a Swiss entrepreneur in 2022, costing approximately 11 million euros. However, Messi has run into trouble with the authorities over the mansion, which is now at risk of being demolished.

Before the villa was transferred to Messi's name, rooms had been built in the basement that were not included in the original building plans. As a result, San José City Hall was unable to issue a final residence permit and formally accept the villa.

The municipality has launched an investigation due to these "serious irregularities" and has stated that it has not ruled out the possibility of partial demolition of the villa if the problem cannot be resolved.

In August 2024, climate activists spray-painted this luxury property located in a nature reserve with modified fire extinguishers. They want to condemn this luxurious building built on a nature reserve. They also believe that Messi's villa is an "illegal building."

Some rooms in the villa were built without building permits. However, the previous homeowners are to blame for these unsanctioned construction activities. Messi only learned of the matter after completing the purchase through a notary in Barcelona on February 3, 2022.

Messi was represented by a lawyer at the time, but apparently even the lawyer did not understand the violation of the building. Messi has worked hard to find a solution. His lawyers were therefore in contact with the Spanish authorities in an attempt to complete the deal completely legally - but apparently without success.

The San Jose City Hall has now announced that it will issue the necessary documents confirming the legality of the property once those rooms that were not included in the initial project plans are demolished.

Fortunately, Messi can still live in this 16,000-square-meter manor, which includes a 568-square-meter villa and a 92-meter-long infinity pool manor, because the unapproved part mainly involves the garage area.
