According to the Associated Press, after being sent off by Zhihong in this round of World Cup preliminaries, Ronaldo may have to wait up to three weeks to know the duration of his suspension. The corresponding suspension penalty may cause Ronaldo to miss some games in next year's World Cup.

During the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, FIFA will generally announce the results of global disciplinary actions three weeks after the end of the game in each window period, which involves red cards, on-field riots and other incidents.

However, since the World Cup qualifying play-offs will not be held until March, the time pressure for FIFA to handle this month's case is not urgent. Despite this, the outside world is particularly concerned about Ronaldo's suspension.

When asked for relevant information on Friday, FIFA declined to provide a timeline for the event.

Due to being sent off by Zhihong, Ronaldo will be forced to accept a suspension, which will be executed in the final round of the World Cup against Armenia.

According to FIFA disciplinary rules, violent behavior (including elbowing opponents) will result in a ban of at least three games, and serious fouls will result in a ban of at least two games. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee will next determine whether Ronaldo's behavior is a serious foul or a violent act to determine the specific number of bans and penalties.
